After two straight wins, the NSW Blues Women’s team will take the field tonight for Game III of the 2025 State of Origin, aiming to complete a clean sweep - and, if time permits, finally resurface Heathcote Road, which has remained in a state of disrepair longer than Queensland’s last decent Origin side.
Led by a powerhouse squad stacked with Cronulla Sharks royalty - Tiana Penitani, Kezie Apps, Kennedy Cherrington and Sienna Lofipo - NSW’s women have already done the unthinkable: dominated two Origins without once needing to reference Queensland’s "fighting spirit" or anyone’s uncle “bleeding blue since '82.”
Locals say the team’s composure, aggression and footy IQ could easily translate to infrastructure delivery. “Honestly, just give them a ute, a shovel and a high viz vest,” said one Alfords Point resident who’s been doing 40km/h since 2019.
There are whispers the team might be more effective than current road contractors, with one insider noting: “At least the Blues don’t drop the ball in crucial moments.”
The game kicks off at 7:45pm, and viewers are advised to expect NSW dominance, Queensland excuses, and the potential for a forward pack to pivot seamlessly from steamrolling defenders to steamrolling asphalt.
And let’s be honest - women’s rugby league is having a serious moment in the Shire. While most junior boys are still deciding between footy and Fortnite, the girls are out there dominating tackles, breaking lines and casually stacking highlight reels that would make Joey Johns emotional.
Game on. Hard hats optional.
