CARINGBAH - A routine visit to local petrol station has reportedly uncovered what analysts are calling one of Australia’s most concentrated gatherings of amateur geopolitical experts, with drivers across the Shire confidently explaining global oil markets while filling their tanks.
Witnesses say the phenomenon emerged shortly after news of rising tensions in the Middle East began circulating online, triggering what sociologists describe as a rapid suburban upgrade in international affairs expertise.
Within hours, residents who previously struggled to locate the Persian Gulf on a map were observed calmly discussing OPEC supply dynamics, shipping lanes and “the Strait of Hormuz situation.”
“Look, the issue is choke points,” said one man leaning against a Hilux while waiting for the pump to click off. “Once you understand the choke points, the whole thing makes sense.”
Experts believe the surge in knowledge may be linked to a combination of one news article, half a podcast and a Facebook comment thread.
Several drivers were also seen offering unsolicited briefings to strangers while topping up tanks and spare jerry cans that were already approximately three-quarters full.
“It’s not panic buying,” said another motorist. “It’s just… prudent market awareness.”
By late afternoon the servo forecourt had effectively become an open-air think tank, with drivers gesturing thoughtfully toward fuel bowsers while discussing global energy policy.
Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that at least one of the experts present may have recently googled ‘why petrol expensive’.
The Shire Gazette will continue monitoring the situation.
