MIRANDA — Shire mums were momentarily blinded by joy this week after news broke that Harris Farm Markets is opening at Miranda Fair — only to discover the cruel twist: not until October.

The beloved Fruitezy, a family-run staple on the ground floor for 11 years, shut its doors this week after a decade of top-shelf produce, mango wisdom, and rockmelon diplomacy. Locals are mourning the loss of friendly chats and an eerily accurate knowledge of their children’s tantrum schedules.

Still, Harris Farm’s impending arrival triggered audible gasps from Kurnell to the Como Bridge. “I squealed in the Lilli Pilli IGA carpark,” said Danielle, a local mum. “Then cried when I saw the opening date. October? That’s basically 2026.”

“I cleared fridge space for $48 watermelon and three types of labneh,” added Janelle from Gymea. “Now what? Settle for Woolies like it’s 2012?”

Self-proclaimed local foodie and part-time pantry stylist Trent from Kareela is counting down. “I’m ready for Lion’s Mane mushrooms and whatever else looks like it was foraged by druids. Once this opens, it’s over for my food blog followers.”

Economists say this marks a tipping point in Shire gentrification. “This ends Miranda’s middle-Aldi phase,” said Professor Max DeChardonnay of the Institute for Local Price Inflation at Gymea TAFE. “We’re entering full suburban-boho retailism. Expect burrata-related property spikes.”

“This is seismic,” said a local agent, adjusting his linen blazer. “We’re talking new listing language like ‘steps from citrus sanctuaries’ and ‘bespoke burrata corridor’. It’s Paddington with parking.”

Security reports two shoppers sighing wistfully at the closed Fruitezy site. One tried to film a “coming soon” reel and burst into tears.

Harris Farm urges calm. Spring awaits. So does asparagus.
