A Cronulla resident has lived through what friends are describing as “the most boring Fast & Furious sequel ever,” after their missing keys - equipped with an AirTag - appeared to be staging a high-speed getaway across the Sutherland Shire and beyond.
What began as mild annoyance quickly escalated into a nail-biting saga when the AirTag pinged at Kurnell, then Caringbah, then, bafflingly, the M5 tunnel. “At one point I thought the keys were lapping me,” the bewildered local confessed.
Social media lit up as screenshots of the rogue keys’ movements were shared in local groups, sparking theories ranging from a roving crime syndicate to a tradie with suspiciously good time management. “It’s either Ocean’s Eleven or someone really desperate to avoid paying tolls,” one commenter speculated.
Eventually, the keys appeared to settle at an unfamiliar address in Gymea. Seizing the moment, the resident jumped into their second car and sped over, rehearsing a polite-yet-menacing door knock. But as they arrived, the keys jolted back into motion, tearing off towards Miranda like a B-grade car chase scene nobody paid to see.
Finally, after hours of suburban pursuit, the twist was revealed: the keys had been sitting comfortably in the backseat of an Uber the entire time.
The relieved local described the ordeal as “deeply humbling,” adding, “Turns out my keys just had a more active social life than me. They’ve seen more of Sydney in six hours than I’ve managed in six months.”
Meanwhile,Locals are now demanding the saga be adapted into a straight-to-streaming blockbuster: Fast & Frivolous: The Key Drift.
