NORTH CRONULLA - Tensions are rising faster than a boosted Commodore at a green light, as residents of Prince Street North Cronulla call for night-time gates, a no-nonsense curfew, and possibly a medieval moat to combat a growing scourge: youth with cars and opinions.
Following a spate of what locals describe as “antisocial behaviour,” “hooning,” and “parking with attitude,” Sutherland Shire Council is considering a plan to install gates at either end of Prince Street between 8pm and 5am. Residents say it’s a necessary move to “restore peace and protect property prices.”
“I’m not saying they’re delinquents,” said one anonymous resident while wearing noise-cancelling headphones to drown out the distant sound of a Toyota Supra with rear spoiler. “But if your headlights change colour and your music contains bass, you probably weren’t invited here.”
While the council insists emergency services will still have full access, some residents are rumoured to be calling for stricter measures, including spike strips, license plate scanners, and a velvet rope manned by some heavies from Northies.
Intriguingly, one of the more vocal complainants is rumoured to have been a founding member of the original Prince Street Hoon Club in the late '90s, back when the flats were full of boardshorts, cockroaches, VB longnecks, and local band Giraffes Casino regularly belted out tunes on the front lawn. “That was different,” he reportedly muttered. “We had respect.”
Critics say the move will only push the hoon problem to neighbouring suburbs. But supporters remain firm.
“We’ve already endured enough,” said another resident. “There are people vaping within 20 metres of the heritage wall, and one young man reversed without checking his mirrors. It’s chaos.”
Locals await the council’s final decision, while P-platers have reportedly already moved on to Miranda rooftop car parks for their Saturday night TikTok dance-off slash burnout mashups.
