CRONULLA - In a quiet act of civil disobedience that has stunned Sutherland Shire’s fitness community, an unidentified man reportedly completed the entire S2S Sutherland to Surf run earlier today without uploading it to Strava, Instagram, or even acknowledging it on Stories.
Eyewitnesses claim the runner, believed to be in his late 30s and wearing deliberately neutral activewear, bypassed both the event hashtag and the post-race beach selfie.
“I asked him what his time was and he just shrugged and said, ‘Pretty good,’” said Gymea runner and Strava Premium subscriber James. “There was no data, no pace breakdown, not even a humblebrag. I thought maybe he was injured.”
The omission triggered confusion and philosophical unease among fellow participants, some of whom gathered at HAM Café post-race to workshop a collective response.
“I mean, if you're not on Strava, were you even there?” asked local media strategist and amateur biohacker Steph. “There’s something almost… private about it. Which, frankly, feels a bit aggressive.”
The situation escalated when it emerged the man also did not own a smartwatch, and had consumed his electrolyte beverage “in silence,” without filming a ‘sip and reflect’ Reel.
Gymea Institute of Applied Media Studies lecturer, Dr Dax Lyons, weighed in on the growing unease:
“We’re seeing a slow-burn crisis of performative absence. Running for endorphins rather than digital validation suggests a level of internal security that’s confronting in a metrics-based culture. Honestly, it’s a bit destabilising.”
As of press time, no one has been able to locate the runner on LinkedIn either, prompting speculation he may also own books, or worse - read them.
The Shire’s running community is being urged to remain calm, stay connected, and remember that if your personal best isn’t public, you may need to consider therapy.
More to come if we can find his @.
