In a daring move aimed at redefining “beachside elegance,” Cronulla RSL has launched a revised dress policy requiring patrons to wear one of three approved shades of pale linen when dining at its newly renovated waterfront restaurant, The Tidal Table.
The dress code policy, officially named "Coastal Chic Compliance Initiative," was announced at a press conference where the RSL’s Head of Hospitality, Gavin Sandstone, explained the rationale. "We’re embracing the true spirit of Cronulla’s luxury lifestyle — relaxed, refined, and visibly expensive," Sandstone declared while adjusting his perfectly pressed beige blazer.
The three approved linen shades — Seabreeze Ivory, Driftwood Beige, and Sunset Fog — were carefully selected after a six-month study conducted by an elite panel of interior designers and retired surf lifesavers.
Local reactions have been mixed. “I had to buy a whole new wardrobe just to get a chicken schnitty,” fumed longtime member Barry "Baz" Thompson. "I miss the days when a singlet and thongs counted as ‘smart casual.’”
Others have embraced the change. Social influencer Tash Waveley, 24, posted: “#CronullaRSL is 🔥 with this chic dress code! Love a venue that demands fashion compliance. Who needs freedom when you’ve got linen?"
To ease the transition, the RSL has set up an on-site "Linen Checkpoint" where patrons can rent pre-approved outfits for a modest fee of $75 per hour (plus dry-cleaning surcharge).
Despite some backlash, management remains firm. “This isn’t just dining; it’s an experience,” Sandstone insisted. “And nothing pairs better with a $14 craft beer than the cool, breathable luxury of certified coastal linen.”
Dress inspections begin next week, with random spot checks rumored for the bingo hall.
